Yue Ma (Ma Yue)

Born in Beijing in 1960, Ma Yue obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1984, and his Artist Diploma from the Musikhochschule in Zurich, Switzerland.

He was Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the Central Conservatory of Music in 1984. At the same time, he was Principal Clarinetist of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Between 1989 and 1990, Ma was Principal Clarinetist and Assistant Conductor at the University of Alabama Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member of the Alarida Octet and Second Clarinet with the Tuscaloosa Symphony. Before joining the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1993 as Principal Clarinetist, Ma was a freelancer with the Zurich Opera House Symphony Orchestra.

Amongst Ma’s achievements are First Prize in the Kiwanis Clarinet Competition in 1990, and Second Prize in the People’s Republic of China National Clarinet Competition in 1982 and 1983.
