Since its founding in 1979, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has been Singapore’s flagship orchestra, often associated with our performances in concert halls. Our aim to touch lives through classical music, also means we make every effort, every season to take music beyond the hall. The language of music transcends boundaries and connects communities like no other.
This 2018/19 season, the SSO continues in that spirit. The orchestra has planned an array of free and ticketed concerts with our “SSO in Your Community” series. The first concert on 30 June saw none other than one of the world’s finest violinists, American violinist Gil Shaham, share the stage with the SSO and Lan Shui—at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music located in Clementi where he performed one of the most beloved and instantly appealing of all violin concertos, by Tchaikovsky.
With our free concerts at school campuses such as Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School, ITE College Central, Victoria Junior College and Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), we bring music to enliven our youth’s places of study and allow their friends and families to join them for evenings of relaxing musical entertainment.
In addition, the SSO will return to the Singapore Racecourse after an absence of five years, to perform on September 22. Other favourite venues include Botanic Gardens and Gardens by the Bay, where families can enjoy popular classics and a picnic outdoors, and even celebrate Mother’s Day in a unique way.
Young and old, wherever you are, there will be an SSO concert just for you. We look forward to welcoming you at our “SSO in Your Community” concerts.
