After a brief respite, the SSO made its much-awaited return to the stage for another season of musical experiences.
Held on 14 and 15 July at the Esplanade Concert Hall, the SSO Pops: The Music of Hans Zimmer opened the season to two full houses. The SSO, under the baton of Gerard Salonga, presented an orchestral showcase of movie soundtracks by the revered film composer.
On both nights, the audience revelled in the symphonic tunes of Driving Miss Daisy, The Lion King, and various Christopher Nolan’s films including Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises. The concert concluded on a high with an encore from Pirates of the Caribbean.
We were also pleased to dedicate the season’s opener to our Official Hotel, Raffles Hotel Singapore. In early 2023, both organisations embarked on a partnership that entailed residency for SSO’s visiting artistes at the hotel, and more opportunities for all to enjoy world-class musical encounters by the national orchestra.
(The SSO and Raffles Hotel Singapore) are national icons, rich in tradition, and known for providing the highest of quality and for setting standards. We are very proud of and grateful for this partnership. Together, we hope to extend the reach of music even further through live music performances such as the Magic Hour series at the hotel lawn, curated specially for the public.
Currently an ongoing quarterly series, Magic Hour @ Raffles Hotel Singapore presents a line-up of uplifting musical experiences for the community on the hotel’s picturesque lawn. Attendees delighted in performances by the SSO string quartet and brass quintet on 18 March and 10 June respectively. The next edition is set to take place on 9 September.
