OPERA STAR STEFAN POP REPLACES CHARLES CASTRONOVO AS RODOLFO IN LA BOHÈME ON APRIL 27 & 28
Opera star Stefan Pop, winner of the Operalia and Seoul Competitions, replaces Charles Castronovo as Rodolfo in SSO’s concert version presentation of La bohème on April 27 and 28 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Castronovo has withdrawn from the performance.
In 2010, at the age of 23, Stefan Pop won two of the most important international vocal competitions just seven days apart, on two different continents: Operalia, hosted by Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the careful guidance of Maestro Placido Domingo, where he was of the few competitors in the entire history of the contest who won two prizes in the same evening, the first prize and the auditorium prize; and the 6th International Music Competition in Seoul, where he won the first prize.
One of the most beloved operas of all time, La bohème will be directed by Lan Shui and also features American star soprano Angel Blue as Mimì. A former Miss Hollywood and Miss Southern California, Blue won the Zarzuela Prize and Second Prize in Operalia (2009). In the 2018/19 season she makes her Royal Opera debut singing Violetta Valéry (La traviata) and returns to the Metropolitan Opera for La bohème and Porgy and Bess.
Angel Blue will conduct a masterclass for sopranos and tenors on April 29 at the Victoria Concert Hall Dance Studio. Charles Castronovo was originally scheduled to join Blue for this masterclass.
