SSO consolidates paid and free digital concert offerings on YouTube; Exciting live concerts in October and November include gala performances with Hans Graf and Leonidas Kavakos.
Singapore, 2 October 2023 — In line with its commitment to provide audiences with a seamless single-stop online experience, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra will be consolidating all its paid and free digital concert offerings on YouTube. The transition is also aligned with SSO’s goal of reaching more audiences around the world, by leveraging YouTube’s 2.6 billion monthly active users in over 100 countries.
SSO currently has over 35K global subscribers on YouTube (@singaporesymphony), its free videos garnering over 2.4 million views in the past year alone, adding to its 9.2 million lifetime views. With the transition of SSO’s paid content from SISTIC Live (SSOLOUNGE) to YouTube Membership, SSO aims to encourage YouTube viewers to join as paid Members at just SGD2 a month to enjoy additional premium content on top of its free offerings.
Marking the launch of SSO’s YouTube Membership account are two exclusive releases. On 7 October, there will be the highly anticipated premiere release of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 featuring violinist Chloe Chua with the SSO conducted by Lawrence Renes, filmed in March 2023. Following this on 9 October is Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 and the fin de siècle beauty of its famous Adagietto, with the SSO also led by Lawrence Renes from the same concert.
Upcoming in concert halls will be two gala concerts and a solo recital by esteemed violinist Leonidas Kavakos joined by Music Director Hans Graf, two concerts featuring guest conductor Andrew Litton and violinist Chloë Hanslip, and the VCHpresents Baroque Festival.
October 2023
SSO Gala: Hans Graf and Leonidas Kavakos on 13 and 14 October will see the famed Greek violin virtuoso perform Tchaikovsky’s glorious Violin Concerto. The music of the ever-popular Czech composer Dvořák bookends this concert – four selections from his picturesque Legends for orchestra and the lyrical Sixth Symphony.
Another rare opportunity to catch Leonidas Kavakos in action, VCHpresents Chamber: Leonidas Kavakos in Recital on 15 October will feature some of the most exquisite pieces by the likes of Debussy and Ravel.
On 20 October, join British violinist Chloë Hanslip and American maestro Andrew Litton as they present Bennett Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky 4, featuring the Asian premiere of American composer Robert Russell Bennett’s Violin Concerto followed by Tchaikovsky’s tumultuous symphonic masterpiece, the Fourth Symphony.
Catch them again on 27 October for Duke Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky 6 in the Asian premiere of Vernon Duke’s Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s epic Pathétique Symphony (No. 6).

Founded in 1979, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is Singapore’s flagship orchestra, touching lives through classical music and providing the heartbeat of the cultural scene. The VCHpresents series by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra is a showcase of the finest musicians from around the world: master instrumentalists and acclaimed ensembles in diverse programmes both traditional and unexpected. ABOUT THE SINGAPORE SYMPHONY CHORUSES
The Singapore Symphony Choruses is a premier choral body comprising the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir.
Since 1980, the Choruses have seen membership from diverse ages, backgrounds and nationalities. Regularly sharing the stage with the SSO, the Choruses record and tour with the orchestra, as well as give their own performances in Singapore and abroad. Through holistic training that nurtures artistic growth and personal development, the Choruses aim to articulate an ecosystem of choral excellence. Repertoire for the respective choruses straddle musical worlds and styles, ranging from orchestral masterpieces to a cappella favourites, and spanning the Renaissance to contemporary 21-st century music. Throughout the pandemic, the Choruses challenged the boundaries of remote collaboration in music making, releasing several productions including a music video "We Will Get There", as well as a one-of-its-kind joint choral performance "Longing", entirely enabled by technology.
