Music Background
Emergency Contact
Prepare a song of your choice either a cappella or accompanied. Any western classical choral/vocal work you’re familiar with would be good. You may expect a sight-singing portion which will test upon music reading and aural skills. If piano accompaniment is required with your song, do bring along 2 copies of the score with the relevant piano parts, for yourself and the Choirmaster. There will be no need to arrange for your own accompanist.
Each member of the Youth Choir is expected to participate in all concerts of each season (unless the SSYC requires a reduced number of singers for a performance). Youth Choir members will also be required to remain standing throughout performances, which could last up to 60 minutes or more.
The Choral season follows the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s season, and runs between July to June. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances scheduled, especially if deemed compulsory.
Following relaxation of measures, the SSYC has returned fully to live rehearsals. Rehearsals include mass singing, ensemble singing, sectionals and score-study sessions.
