Synopsis

Barber’s breakthrough work, the brilliantly scored overture to The School for Scandal and Rachmaninoff’s thrilling Symphonic Dances frame the Asian premiere of the Drei Kontinente Cello Concerto. This collaboration by acclaimed contemporary composers Nico Muhly (USA), Sven Helbig (Germany) and Zhou Long (China), co-commissioned by the SSO, will be championed by its dedicatee, the renowned cellist Jan Vogler, whom Gramophone magazine called the “unifying force [whose] musical personality defines the piece.”
