Synopsis
Enjoy a musical showcase that features music of different styles! Some pieces to look forward to include Malcolm Arnold's exciting 'Three Shanties', where three sea-songs form the basis of this 3 movements piece, filled with funny effects for winds and surprises! They will also be performing the exciting tango 'Olé Guapa' ('Hello Beautifull Girl'), composed by Dutch composer Danny Malande in 1937.
The Wind Quintet of the Singapore Wind Symphony (SWS) consists of five passionate musicians - Joost Christiaan Flach (oboe), Jeanette Yeo (bassoon), Mohd Rasull (flute), Fairus (clarinet), Chng Shu Sin (horn).
Founded in 1977, the SWS was formerly known as 'National Theatre Symphonic Band', before renaming to 'Singapore Wind Symphony' in 1992. The SWS have since established itself as one of the leading community ensembles in Singapore, achieving excellence in music-making, and winning local and international accolades.
This event is part of the VCH Open House, organised by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
