Programme Brochure
Synopsis
They say the cello is the instrument that most closely imitates the human voice. The sublime collaboration of the 10 cellists of Singapore Symphony Orchestra conjures an opera that explores the depths of imagination with Carl Vine’s Inner World, to the capacity of simplicity in Arvo Pärt’s Fratres, a work that exemplifies the composer’s own tintinnabuli style. The diverse set of works that display the cello’s versatility also includes Giovanni Sollima’s charged Violoncelles, vibrez!, while dynamic soprano Jeong Ae Ree joins the ensemble in Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos’ adventurous Bachianas Brasileiras.
