Synopsis
“A story, a song, a dance and a party”, each a fitting metaphor for life. Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 64 No. 5 nicknamed “The Lark” encapsulates the essence of each tale in four exquisite movements, an optimistic wave at freedom as he left the Esterhazy court for London. Considered the father of string quartets, Haydn’s virtuosity is revealed in the dazzling String Quartet No. 3 Op. 54. The programme also features one of Mozart’s greatest chamber works, the Clarinet Quintet in A major, K.581, its radiance a façade of his misery during one of his most difficult times. This charming programme is brought to you by one of the world’s leading period instrument string quartets, the London Haydn Quartet, with leading exponent of the basset clarinet, forefather of the modern clarinet, Eric Hoeprich.
